John J. Reenan

John Reenan has more than 30 years of trial and appellate experience representing clients in different industries with a wide range of civil litigation issues. His major tort litigation experience includes hundreds of aviation and trucking accidents, wrongful death, injuries to minors, maritime, railroad, medical malpractice and premises liability cases. His experience also ranges into issues dealing with fraud, contract disputes, construction, real property disputes, business and insurance disputes,
and probate.

He also is able to advise companies on aircraft transactions, property and sales tax, corporate structure, and operations. His wide range of experience also includes international contract negotiation and litigation, with experience in Mexico, Canada, Colombia, Italy, Turkmenistan, and the United Kingdom.

John is a member of the Dallas, Tarrant County, and Federal Bar Associations. He has taught Aviation Law and Insurance and Economics at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, and is a mediator trained by the American Arbitration Association.
Before he became an attorney, John was a licensed securities broker, holding Series 6, 63, 7, 24, and Group I and II licenses.

John and his wife Lara have 6 children and are members of University Park United Methodist Church.

Noteworthy Accomplishments

  • Successfully pursued mandamus against a trial court when plaintiffs hired the former director of safety of manufacturer and trial court refused to disqualify plaintiff’s counsel. In re Bell Helicopter Textron Inc., 87 S.W.3d 139 (Fort Worth–2002, orig. proc.).
  • Successful interlocutory appeal for individual who did no more than sign documents on behalf of a corporation, reverse and render on appeal applying the fiduciary shield doctrine of personal jurisdiction. Yfantis v. Balloun, 115 S.W.3d 175 (Fort Worth–2003, no pet.).
  • Successfully removed a previously-remanded case to federal court based on federal officer removal in the designated representative program, leading to the formation of a federal MDL regarding Cessna 208 series aircraft.
  • Successfully pursued appeal and reversed a $15 million judgment and obtained from the court of appeals a take-nothing judgment based on trial court Improperly submitting to jury the issue of joint venture/joint enterprise. Arthur v. Grimmett, 319 S.W.3d 711 (Tex. App.-El Paso, 2009, pet denied).
  • Successfully pursued and defended on appeal a summary judgment in a multi-million dollar contract dispute between a cable distributer and a content provider. Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc. v. Fidelity Communications Co., 376 S.W.3d 377 (Tex. App.–Dallas 2012, no pet

  • Successfully defended City of Bonham against a Texas Tort Claims Act claim regarding damage to an aircraft at the city airport. Hale v. City of Bonham, 477 S.W.3d 452 (Tex. App.–Texarkana 2015, pet. denied).
  • Obtained a take-nothing summary judgment on behalf of senior care facility for claims of premises liability in Harris County, Texas.
